Street art per le strade del Cairo

street-art-cairo-egypt (2)Poco da dire e molto da mostrare. Girando per Il Cairo post-rivoluzione salta agli occhi l’importanza che i graffiti hanno avuto nel trasmettere il messaggio e le richieste della società civile.

Negli ultimi mesi (seconda metà del 2012), molti graffiti sono stati rimossi, modificati o distrutti, perché quella dei writers rimane, che ci piaccia oppure no, una forma espressiva minore. Tra gli autori più conosciuti di questa forma d’arte ci sono El Teneen, Keizer, Ganzeer, Adham Bakry, Dokhan, Hend Khera, Hany Khaled, Charles Akl, Amr Gamal e Sad Panda. Ma i tentativi inutili di vietarli o di coprirli hanno solo fatto in modo che questo fenomeno crescesse e si radicasse.

Non solo Facebook e Twitter, strumenti di fondamentale efficacia nonché simbolo delle lapidarie battute sul regime, ma anche le voci di quei writer, designer, pubblicitari e artisti di strada, che con le loro opere sono stati i veri protagonisti della comunicazione della necessità del cambiamento politico.

I graffiti sono sparpagliati in tutta la città e sono in costante aumento. Zona simbolo è Mohammed Mahmoud street, che da Tahrir Square raggiunge la zona rossa dei ministeri e del parlamento, passando per l’American University. Stessa storia su al-Kasr el-Aini, chiusa negli anni scorsa con muri che impedivano il passaggio; i murales che li ricoprivano sono andati persi quando i blocchi di cemento, che componevano i muri, sono stati rimossi, ma le foto raccontano quanta espressione e voglia di cambiamento veniva fuori dalle mani dei giovani artisti.

Zamalek, quartiere tranquillo dalle parti del centro, è un’altra tappa obbligatoria per questo tour d’arte di strada. Nella parte nord dell’isola sul Nilo gli artisti hanno forse trovato la tranquillità per potersi dedicare alle loro opere.

Un ottimo lavoro, per gli appassionati, è stato fatto da Elisa Pierandrei, giornalista e ricercatrice, ha concentrato il suo lavoro sulle produzioni e le innovazioni culturali nel mondo arabo. Elisa ha scritto l’e-book Urban Cairo dove racconta e analizza il mondo dei murales e la street art egiziana nel periodo post-rivoluzione.

Dall’e-book è possibile accedere ad una mappa interattiva dotata di descrizione, data di realizzazione e nome dell’autore relativa ai graffiti più significativi. Oltre 30 opere sono state geo-localizzate sulla mappa della capitale egiziana: la città più popolosa del mondo arabo. Oltre alla testimonianza fotografica, ogni tag è caratterizzato dalla descrizione, dal periodo di realizzazione e dal nome dell’autore dei graffiti più significativi.

L’ebook Urban Cairo racconta inoltre alcune vicende legate ai graffiti protagonisti, molti dei quali ora non esistono più, diventando così la testimonianza storica dell’eccezionale produzione artistica e della capacità d’analisi e critica espressa dai giovani sui muri del Cairo nei mesi che hanno seguito le dimissioni dell’ex presidente Hosni Mubarak.
