StrEat Palermo Tour – Sapori dalla città vera!

Palermo e lo Street food? Non ci sarebbe neanche da porre la domanda e la frase corretta sarebbe: “Palermo è lo Street Food!”

Basti pensare che la città siciliana si è posizionata al quinto posto nella classifica delle dieci capitali mondiali dello street food pubblicata da Virtual Tourist.com, la più grande community di viaggiatori del web con 1,3 milioni di iscritti! [Leggi l’articolo]
Noi abbiamo voluto sfidare la città e il suo cibo di strada e l’abbiamo fatto grazie a StrEat Palermo Tour, un giro gastronomico tra mercati, taverne e osterie della città assaggiando tutto ciò che è cibo di strada.

Il progetto nasce dall’idea di Marco, tour leader, esperto del mondo arabo e innamorato di Palermo; come racconta Marco, l’unicità dello street food palermitano non consiste solo nella sua varietà e nella sua bontà, ciò che sorprende infatti, è  la capacità che ha ogni piatto di raccontare un capitolo storico del capoluogo siciliano.


Lo StrEat Palermo Tour si svolge interamente a piedi attraverso le piazze storiche ed i mercati popolari del centro cittadino come Ballarò, la Vucciria e il Capo. L’itinerario prevede alcune soste presso rosticcerie, pasticcerie, venditori ambulanti e taverne per assaporare il delizioso cibo di strada palermitano e degustare una selezione di vini dolci siciliani. Termina con il pranzo vastaso, in una tipica taverna palermitana. Durante il percorso, oltre ad assaggiare i diversi piatti, Marco racconta anche la storia dei piatti, come si sono evoluti nel tempo, e vi svelerà i segreti delle ricette tradizionali.

Ci siamo lasciati conquistare dai panini panelle e cazzilli, dallo sfincione preparato come una volta a Via Maqueda, dal panino con la milza, insaporito da formaggio e limone, dalle stigghiole… una volta assaggiate queste bontà ne avrete sempre voglia.

Ma StrEat Palermo non è solo cibo, si passeggia infatti le vie più antiche della città, tra i monumenti più famosi, come la Cattedrale, centro del culto di Santa Rosalia, i Quattro Canti, la Chiesa della Martorana e il Teatro Massimo, set della scena finale del Padrino III. Durante il percorso Marco, come in una chiacchierata tra amici, racconta gli aneddoti più famosi della città, descrivendo i luoghi che si attraversano, con dettagli storici e descrizioni artistiche.

Ciò che ci ha entusiasmato dello StrEat Palermo è l’originalità del tour e la simpatia con cui si affronta la giornata. Alla partenza, Marco consegna il Passaporto del Mangione, una sorta di compostela gastronomica, che accompagna i “mangioni” nel corso del pellegrinaggio palermitano; ad ogni assaggio si riceve un timbro, conquistando così il titolo di Mangioni dello Street Food Siciliano.

Il tour parte alle 10.30 da Piazza Verdi, di fronte la scalinata del Teatro Massimo e termina alle 15.00 presso la Cattedrale. Il costo è di 35 € a persona e comprende 6 assaggi di cibo di strada, 3 degustazioni di vini locali e un pranzo in una taverna siciliana, oltre che il Passaporto del Mangione, il tutto in compagnia di Marco.

Siamo tornati a casa dopo aver fatto una vera esperienza palermitana! Portando per sempre, nel cuore e nel palato, il ricordo dei deliziosi sapori della cucina mediterranea, con in testa la frase che Marco ripete sempre: “cu mancia sulu s’affuca!” [Trad. chi mangia da solo, si strozza]
