MADRE,un’idea di Museo

Era il 1325 quando la Regina Maria d’Ungheria, moglie di Carlo II d’Angiò, re svevo di Napoli, fece ricostruire sul Monte di Donna Regina il Monastero di Santa Maria, di proprietà delle clarisse: un piccolo complesso formato dalla chiesa Vecchia e dal Palazzo Donna Regina, a cui fu annessa nel ‘600 la chiesa Nuova.

Carcere, case popolari, botteghe, laboratori d’artigianato, uffici comunali, archivi di tribunali, caserme di polizia municipale, a ridosso del centro antico della città, tra le mura del Palazzo di Donna Regina è passato tutto ciò che il ventre di Napoli rigurgitasse nel corso dei secoli; fino a quando, a metà dell’Ottocento l’edificio fu stato acquistato dal Banco di Napoli che lo trasformò per adibirlo a sede del Banco dei Pegni.

Una lunga pianificazione e una concertazione tra la Regione Campania e il Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali ha portato nel 2004 alla nascita della Fondazione Donnaregina, a cui è stata affidata la gestione di quello che è il primo Museo d’Arte Contemporanea in Campania, meglio conosciuto come MADRE (Museo d’arte contemporanea Donnaregina).  A pochi metri dal Duomo, dal Museo Archeologico Nazionale e dall’Accademia di Belle Arti (Galleria d’Arte Moderna), il palazzo è stato completamente restaurato e adibito a museo grazie al progetto dell’architetto portoghese Álvaro Siza Vieira ed inaugurato il 10 giugno 2005 con l’apertura di tutti i suoi spazi: un auditorium, una libreria, una biblioteca, laboratori didattici, un ristorante con annessa caffetteria.

Ma entrare al MADRE non vuol dire solo visitare una mostra d’arte contemporanea, infatti il museo ha offre un’esperienza a 360° oltre ad essere un luogo da vivere e un centro di studi e documentazione. La biblioteca, luogo di ritrovo e discussione, ma anche di raccolta e diffusione di informazione, insieme all’Archivio multimediale costituisce un centro di documentazione specializzato sull’arte del XX e XXI secolo; grazie alla collaborazione con la casa editrice Electa è nata una linea editoriale specifica per il museo che investe non solo i materiali a stampa, ma anche la segnaletica del museo con un’immagine coordinata e linee grafiche sviluppate sia nei cataloghi delle mostre sia nelle varie pubblicazioni.

Le attività di promozione e sviluppo sono l’altro fiore all’occhiello della Fondazione Donnaregina, MADREscenza è la piattaforma di ricerca e mediazione dei linguaggi del contemporaneo, ricca di attività come incontri, seminari conferenze e laboratori: un’esperienza di conoscenza che consente di approfondire ed elaborare il rapporto tra arte, pensiero e quotidianità. Attraverso Progetto XXI invece la Fondazione vuole esplorare la produzione artistica più recente, per mostrare l’arte sperimentale più avanzata sostenendo le pratiche, i discorsi e le narrazioni dell’arte contemporanea; le attività spaziano da artisti emergenti che dialogano con la città a storie di poesia visuale fra Napoli, Genova, Milano, Firenze, Roma e gli scenari internazionali.

Le due proposte che rendono il MADRE davvero innovativo sono la sezione Didattica e la sezione Per_Formare. Grazie alla sezione Didattica, il Museo da spazio espositivo diventa uno spazio collettivo ed educativo, dove si incontrano l’arte e la creatività; la fondazione organizza una serie di attività rivolte alle scuole, alle famiglie, ma anche agli adulti per vivere il museo come luogo di apprendimento e di ricerca, attraverso percorsi esplorativi degli spazi, delle opere e delle mostre. Obiettivo principale è quello di far conoscere i linguaggi dell’arte contemporanea con un approccio innovativo, stimolante, giocoso e sensoriale per intraprendere un’esperienza creativa: laboratori, campus estivi, visite tematiche avvicinano lo spettatore al mondo dell’arte contemporanea in maniera alternativa.

Per_Formare è la sezione dedicata allo sviluppo del Museo. Partendo dagli spazi al piano terra, chiamati anche Re_Pubblica MADRE, che sono diventati luogo di passaggio e connettività, favorendo l’accesso sia fisico che virtuale al museo; l’area perciò è ricca di strumenti e servizi che permettono di incontrarsi, di esprimersi, di confrontarsi, di condividere, di chattare, di bloggare, di ricercare e conoscere. Contemporaneamente nelle altre aree del museo si sviluppano una serie di mostre temporanee, che hanno come obiettivo la formazione progressiva della collezione permanente del Museo.

Il MADRE di Napoli non è solo museo ma anche una finestra sulla città, un teatro, un’assemblea, uno schermo interattivo, da cui affacciarsi, in cui recitare la propria parte, conquistare i propri spazi, su cui scrivere le proprie emozioni.
